Those are lovely. Thanks for sharing.

I often wonder where my old coins have been, who handled them, etc. Here you have a medal that literally went through the war.

I think that makes it even more special to know the history of that particular piece.

This medal was found by my uncle before I was born, given to my mother I have never seen it in my life until 7 weeks ago. I'm 45 now and the research on this led to a deeper interest in coins too, half dozen 18th century halfpennies a 17th century crown and farthing and counting and of course those medals.

I love that the coin was found by your uncle. How did he come to find it?

It's great that it sparked an interest in the hobby.

I always kept old coins -- ever since I was a little girl -- but I never learned much about them until a few years ago. (I'm 60 now.) But like you, I got more interested after my husband and I inherited a handful of old coins.

it was found quite by chance spotted in the dirt on the building site he was on redeveloping the area in the early 60s. Never laid eyes on it until 7 weeks ago I'm 45 now. heres some better pics of 1964 restrike after a 1 minute finger tip wash.

yes it came up much better than I hoped like the day it was struck came in an original box too from 1897 even though it is a restrike so that was pretty cool. I really like this piece dont know who designed this piece but theirs a guy on site who collects victorian medals he should know.
