Generally it is a good idea to contact the seller if there is a problem. However when it comes to coins, there are 2 things that will automatically get a negative feedback from me. Once I had a seller plop a loose coin into an envelope. No protection at all, just the coin and no flip or anything. And once a seller taped a coin, yes right on the coin and to a piece of paper. That is totally unacceptable.

I've had the first many a times which is certainly annoying, especially as it beckons being taken out because it's so obvious what it is.

I've never had the second and I would for sure be sending the coin back for a refund if it turned up like that. Might as well just give it a quick polish before you stick it in the post too while we're taping them down.

I hate loose coins and taped coins too! I have never left negative feedback over it, but it is annoying. I probably should have.

Even though I have never left negative feedback and have been an ebay member since 2001 (if I recall correctly), I am tempted to leave neutral feedback (never left that either) for the first time ever.

Got a coin for very good value in my opinion in an auction. Seller went to post office and they claimed my address is not valid. That does happen from time to time, but only when people actually physically go to the post office, never happens when they use online USPS or through ebay. They contacted me and I provided the seller with an alternate address (which is also populated address in ebay, I just did not select it). Seller did not respond to that email and just simply refunded my money. When I contacted them they said they do not send to alternate addresses sent via message.
Maybe the guy has been ripped off before, I am trying to give benefit of the doubt-- but no seller that the post office gave grief to has ever not shipped it to alternate. He can see from my decade and a half and positive reviews that I am not some fly by nighter. Anyway, part of me feels that he may have used the opportunity for the purpose of just getting out of an auction in which he did not like the results.

So, in response to your post-- cancelling auctions that sold for less than the seller expected is also a bad thing, along with the ones you mention.

The worse part was that both sellers had sold a number of coins. They should have known better. I'm probably the only one who called them out on it.
Rest in Peace

I never had any of those things happen but I had read about it here a long time ago.

I have since left "securely packaged" in the feedback.

Before joining this site it had never even occurred to me that a seller wouldn't take the time to properly package what they were shipping.

It can be a concern for sure. Once I had a seller send me 3-4 rolls of wheat cents in a bubble mailer and when it arrived there was a tear and there was nothing in the package. Thankfully the seller made good on it. Maybe rolls could be shipped with sturdier packaging due to their weight.
