A while back I posted abt my 8 y/o son finding a '45 merc under a local Coinstar machine. Well, my foot is on my mouth after telling him he'd never find anything like that again. today we were over there and he did his obligatory hands and knees search and pulled a few coins from the outer edges of underneath it. Once of them is a 49-S rosie.

It is blatantly obvious the machines are kicking the silver out and sometimes they roll under the machine. Keep your eyes open for this if you aren't already doing so! Still hoping he will pull out a SLQ, even if it's dateless.

Yes, I'm a pipe dreamer.

Congrats

Now I'm almost tempted to crawl on the floo rand look but I don't have any children to use as a cover story and "blame them for dropping the change on the floor and it rolled under the machine" excuse.
Rest in Peace

If no one else is near me I'd like to sweep the whole bottom of those machines with a long narrow stick.

Found a '63 rosie in a scoop of change I found at the coinstar several days ago. Man, was I happy to see some silver!

Amazes me how the new machines keep the junk (like zincies) and kick out the silver. Our change machine at the bank does the same thing.

I'm a regular CoinStar checker, but not under. Gotta try that. I've found Wheats, Steel cents, 2 War Nickels, a 1912-D Barber dime, 4 Mercs, 12 or so Rosies, 6 silver Washingtons and dozens of foreign, including 3 Canadian silver dimes, a silver Canada Quarter, a silver Netherlands 25 Cent, a silver UK Shilling. Of course, this is over a 3 year period.

One thing that also works is when someone has just finished, I will approach and ask if they had any foreign and offer to buy it at the US equivalent for the size coin it is. About 75% of the time they just give them to me. It is a rare occasion that anyone is nasty or unfriendly.
