Need a little more information, size and weight of the piece along with better pictures out of the 2x2 including a picture of the edge. This coin type is the most faked some are done so well to even give experts a challenge. Others are so poor they are easy to spot.

Either the lettering of the name on that book is very large, or that coin is about the size of a fractional (trihemiobol?). Size and weight really matter on this one. However, on the upside, the style looks good to me for an original silver piece from Attica.

There are a couple of details I don't like... though the general style looks OK.
The A (of AoL) looks strange to me... as does the eye (though I know the style of the eye is one method used to indicate date... it was changed several times)but the hair immediately above the eye also looks wrong. What about the tail of the bird too? Mine has a feather there next to the leg and yours has a straight line coming down where my flan ends (so I don't if that part is right) The ear is completely different too.
The weight of mine is 17.1g but yours seems to be missing much more flan than mine on the right hand side.

Quote: There are a couple of details I don't like... Same here. I suspect this may be a crudely tooled legit, worn ancient. The deepness of the recessed lines is incongruous with the amount of wear on the high points. The beak, for example, is flattened out with no details, and yet the circles of the eyes right above are excessively deep. The "fish scale" feathers are really deep here too, as are many of the lines (gouges?) on the obverse. I also don't know what to make of the "A" of AOE on the reverse...never seen one like that. Just my Two Cents here. Not my area (sold off my one and only owl years ago), so maybe I'm way off base...maybe it's fine.

Outwardly the coin looks good, I didn't find any match on any of the fake coin sites which is a plus. But as David stated it is a little light for this type it should be right around 17 grams. I can't say either way on this one.

More so for authenticating. Then crack it out and keep label.

I agree with those who think it is a fake. Many details are wrong. Look at the silly ear! Look at the hairlines above the forehead. There are lots of style variations of Athenian tetradrachms and none of them look like this.

augustus1, those are also my reasons for thinking this a fake. There's too many style abnormalities. And the 14 gram weight also points to a fake. An authentic Owl, with that minimum amount of wear, would not weigh as low as 14 grams.
Sorry, dannytreeguy, you most likely have a fake.
You could always send it to David R Sear's Ancient Coin Certification Service. His opinion on the authenticity of ancient coins is respected throughout the collecting community, even world wide. Of course though, it will cost a few dollars and you have to send him the coin to look at. But you will get a well respected opinion on your coin.

dannytreeguy is the kind of unethical seller these forums help protect collectors from.
Not the kind of guy I will help again anytime in the future.
