I always assumed it was like an upscale specialized version of ebay. To me, it would be unproductive to bid on a chance to bid on something. Am I missing something?

when you bid and win at Heritage you pay for the coin and get the coin just like you would with any other auction. the only difference between Heritage/teletrade and ebay is the Buyers Premium. You are not bidding to be a participant in an actual auction that has the coin you are bidding on is in

Please help me understand this?

"You are not bidding to be a participant in an actual auction that has the coin you are bidding on is in"

Sorry, I'm just as curious about the heritage as many others. Trying to learn more.

Yopu are correct, if you see a coin on Heritage and you bid on it you are bidding on the coin not q chance to bid on the coin in another auction. If you are the high bidder on Heritage website (and there is no live auction scheduled after the internet auction is scheduled to end)then you are the winner of the coin and the coin will be sent to you after you pay (what ever your high bid was plus a buyers premium) for it
