Greetings, guys and gals. I was cruising the bay, looking for an upgrade for my 1917-s and came across this one. First, let me say there's no way I'm going to buy it.

I'm mostly looking for opinions on the reverse (it sucks). Is the condition primarily due to wear or is it very poorly struck?

Rest in Peace

IMO It looks like the reverse was Struck Through Grease or a cloth.
but anyway ,I've learned to stay away from Vette 1986 .

Definitely not wear, possibly struck on a tapered planchet.

Agree with T-Bop, probably Struck Through Grease.

Weak strike all the way, there is evidence everywhere. EPU is barely formed, really weak O in ONE, USA very weak and some of the weakness transferred to the obverse on the right. You can see it along the rim all the way down to the 7 in the date.

I've never seen a 1917S this poorly struck, it's actually a very cool coin IMO, AU55. It might have been a partially obstructed/filled die as this degree of weakness in the right wheat stalk is atypical.

Now that I look again, this may have been struck with a partially broken collar. I think I see some elongation on the east side, both sides of the coin. The 7 is a mile from the rim! This is a good one for Mike D, he's the expert.

Really? I've got a coin on the way and several bids waiting for closure. Am I going to be disappointed?

I have to go do something for about 4-5 hours but I'll check back in here when I can. Sounds more complicated than I originally thought.
Rest in Peace

I agree. I have moved this to the V/E sub-forum. Hopefully it will catch his eye.
