Hi everyone, I just sold my first coin ever on ebay and would like to know how these are package and shipped usually. I intend to use a regular small envelope and I'm looking for the most inexpensive way to package it, preferably with materials one usually has at hand in a household. The coin is worth just about a dollar, but I'd like it to remain in the same condition and for it to arrive at its destination safely. Any ideas ? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

i usually put it in a 2x2 and in a small padded envelope, although theres probably cheaper ways. I once received a coin in a thick cardboard like envelope, although I'm not sure where one would get those/

I usually place coin in a small zip lock bag, place it between 2 bits of cardboard cut to fit the envelope I'll be using, staple or sticky tape around all sides of the cardboard, pop in envelope & send it off. You can even staple the top of the little bag to the cardboard to stop it moving around.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

I have often received coins individually packed in soft PVC flips. They are stuck between two stiff thin sheets of cardboard, the invoice packed flat with the cardboard, the whole lot inside a registered padded envelope.
Absolutely OK witk me. Soft PVC flips are perfectly OK for shipping purposes. I do not use them in my collection.
Ordinary non registered envelopes could be used for lower valued coins. The Post Office may charge extra for non standard sized envelopes or extra weight.

I tend to buy more than I sell so I just save and recycle the flips and cardboard from the coins mailed to me and I just buy the small padded envelopes to ship with.

Since the coin is only worth about a dollar, I would put it in a 2X2, tape the 2X2 to the center of a sheet of paper. Fold the sheet into thirds. Staple the paper together about 1/2 inch from each side of the 2X2. Put the coin/paper in an addressed standard #10 envelope, affix a 49 cent stamp and drop it in a mailbox.
If you want added security use Nevols suggestion of two pieces of cardboard (such as the thickness on finds in a cereal box) cut to the size of the envelope. Still tape the 2X2 to one of them and staple them together as I described earlier.

If you decide to ship it via USPS in a padded envelope be sure to add something (like a packing peanut) to make the envelope no longer flat. US Postal Service will charge more and the person you send it to will either have to cover the extra postage (can be expensive) or have it sent back to you. I've run into this more times than I care to comment on with ebay sellers. Then they get mad at you because they didn't do this..

If you decide to mail the coin in a regular envelope, put a piece of packing tape on the back of the envelope to cover the flap.

I don't quite understand. USPS charges more to send a flat padded envelope? I thought it was based on weight not shape.
I hope I am misunderstanding something. lol
