Here's an interesting coin.
Toward the end of 1923, Germany adopted the rentenmark to replace the mark which had been rendered virtually worthless by a hyperinflation debacle. Bereft of precious metal reserves with which to back its currency, Germany resorted to the expedient of backing the new rentenmark with assets that were in large part agricultural in nature. As a stopgap measure, this worked well enough, and after a year of monetary stability, the German government was able to secure fresh loans, enabling it to then replace the rentenmark with the reichmark.
Like the previous mark which was divided into 100 pfennig, the rentenmark was divided into 100 rentenpfennig.
