I stumbled on seller RCM on the US ebay selling the $20 Bugs Bunny and Superman coins with free shipping. Then reading about pocket pieces on main forum, a poster showed picks of these 2 coins, saying he got them from RCM ebay. When I looked at these 2 coins there were over a 1000 sold.

I wonder if our mint really is on ebay, and if so why aren't they doing anything about counterfeit coins. Does anyone have any info to share. My account isn't working and I'm not bothering to fix it. This way it keeps me from buying!

No wonder the RCM is under some layoff pressure, these coins has royalties and now you add ebay paypal fees on top

I am not totally certain its our mint, but 1300 superman coins leads me to 90% certainty. They don't ship to Canada. So I was hoping someone could confirm. I would see this as an odd selling venue for them. I tend to stumble across strange stuff.

The seller Royal Canadian Mint ebay 121733753429 they've sold 1486 superman $20 coins with 45 the past 24 hrs. I found it by looking at Most Watched Canadian coins on forum menu. The Bugs Bunny is also there. There 334 watchers on the coin. I hope this helps.

The RCM has been selling on ebay for some time, but the US $ price they are charging tends to be higher than the exchange rate the credit card company will charge if you buy from the mint site. Right now a C $20 purchase would be slightly under US $15.10, but the mint is charging US $ 15.99 for the 20 for 20s on ebay.

Shows the power of ebay, with all the fees and exchange the RCM must lose 2 to 3.00 on each coin sold.

but you must notice, that they are not shipping to Canada, I guess they figure if they sell them only to the States there is very little chance of them getting returned to the bank..

This reminds of a supermarket in downtown Toronto who a few years ago got in a price war with a neighbour and sold bananas for 9 cents a pound, he was losing about 15 cents a pound and was proud of selling 12 skids, so I asked him why, the more you sell the more you lose, he said it brought in the customers from his neighbour. Difference is the RCM is a monopoly

I just tried to enter my US zip code after selecting United States delivery, and it came up with: Shipping cost cannot be calculated. Please enter a valid Postal Code.

So I can't verify if they are charging for shipping or not. The ' ebay seller' has only the one item listed, and it is completely sold out. If it truly was the RCM, you would think that they would have got into this with both feet, and started selling anything that hadn't sold out say 6 months ago or older.

They seem to add small quantities (50 or so) to the listing every now and then. The last time quantity was added was on Nov 10th.

Last night, the item was available w/ free shipping in the US. If it is not the RCM, it certainly looks like it is. RCM logo, item location, description etc. They even direct customers to the Mint's toll free number.

From the listing under Contact Us:
" ebay Order Inquiries: 1-800-268-6468 Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.""

Some other listings.

The RCM on ebay, hopefully they would notice all the counterfeit coins and take action! I still find it shocking that the mint is on ebay. The cant bode well for reseller trying to get above issue for coins not sold out yet. I wonder how they will handle shipping complaints, as sometimes they are slow. Will they crack down on people using mint stock images in their ads? They seem to be testing the waters. Do you think they will end up offering a greater selection of coins?
