I recently purchased a MS66 at auction and was not aware of a variety type with Island Logs, is there any added value in this ?

Those island logs are actually die scratches.
As there were probably around 5,000 minted,
there is a bit of a premium but not much.

Macon that sounds like a great coin any chance of some pictures?
I think it's a excellent unexpected bonus. If given the choice between an MS66 and an MS66 with the island logs I'd be all over it. Congrats!
I have the variety but no where near your grade, l've always liked it.

Cheers, Bill

There is more to the variety than just the die gouges on the Island. If anyone who has one of these interesting coins, there are always two other factors. One the coins are always the slightly matte finish (unpolished dies) , and there are EXTRA WAVES under the front of the canoe at the front. Look closely, you will be amazed at what you see.
As to likely mintage somewhere around 7500 to 10,000 is a good guess. There are two die pairings for sure . This variety is never found with the typical brilliant chrome look of dollars of the 1950 - 1952 period. If per chance someone does have one with the chrome brilliant finish please post. Would love to be wrong on this.

Pacificoin I looked at mine but it's been badly cleaned and I can't tell the finish.

"This secure holder is safe for YOU coin.."

Is it just me or is this gramatically incorrect... just me but I would expect something a bit better for a professional operation.

Mac don yours is the typical slightly matte finish, not the polished chrome die look at all. Nice coin

@pacificcoin
does this help ? I am not sure about it being matte because it has more of a brilliant type finish on the MS66 and when compared to the SP I have it is not a dull look
