This used to be a reputable dealer on ebay, but they recently have been called out selling a fake CC Morgan, and fake 1909 S VDB. I believe this coin to be altered as well. Mint mark placement looks way off to me. Thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-Linc...291616163486? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Dang. From a "reputable" dealer. Not buying from them if these coins keep slipping through their hands. The MM looks added somehow. Doesn't look like a real punched S. Maybe I'm wrong?

Does look a little too much to the periphery.

Looks like GSC got a new Chinese supplier lol. But seriously, what the heck have they been thinking. Honestly, this baffles me. Only 40 mins left on this one

Their neutral and negative feedback tells a sad story. I wouldn't touch that faked cent.

I emailed the seller and told him that he had a counterfeit coin. He never responded. Bizarre that a long time seller on ebay, would let their reputation go down in flames like that.

Then why do we see other certified 1909 S coins on ebay with different mint mark positions? GSC's track record is not stellar, and they have been called out on previous fake or altered coins being sold on ebay

Because more than one obverse die was used in the making of 1909 S cents. Remember, the mintmark was hand-punched into the die, so the MM location will vary.

Quote: Please do your homework before you call something fake, please. I saw this last night and didn't report it because I wasn't convinced just from the MM location. I'm glad I didn't.
