Hello,
I have this nice CC Morgan and I would love to find out its VAM number. I understand there are 10 or 15 different known possibilities. SEGS did not assign any VAM number, although they did give it a high MS66 DMPL grade .

The mintmark appears to be "large" and "centered" and it doesn't have any chips.

There is a small but distinct triangular clash in front of Liberty's neck.

I don't see any pitting around "In God We Trust".

There is a microscopic dash under the second 8 in the date. I can see it with a loupe but it doesn't really show in this photo.

Finally, there is a feature I haven't noticed on any other Morgans. There is a straight, raised line that connects 5 or 6 denticles, right below the DO in "Dollar".

So, does anyone have a guess, or (hopefully!) a positive VAM I.D. for this Morgan? Thanks in advance for your opinions!

VAM 5. Line in denticles below Dollar confirms it.

Forgot to mention, triangle under the chin is clash line from eagles left wing. Look close to neck line going down and you might find a clashed N or I from In god we trust also. Nice looking coin.

Thank you MorgansRmine, that's the kind of decisive ID information I was hoping for! I don't see the doubling of the mintmark or date as described in the VAM World entry for VAM 5, but presumably those features had been mostly polished away by the time my coin was struck.

Does anyone have any information about populations and/or value for this VAM? Could it be considered common, scarce, or rare, for example?

On another note, I would like to attempt a crossover to PCGS for this coin. It's graded MS-66 DMPL by SEGS and I think it probably deserves a solid 65 DMPL, so I would submit it with that as the minimum acceptable grade. I see that VAM attribution is not an option since PCGS provides a list of available VAMs on their website and none are listed for the '83-CC.

Does anyone have an opinion about my chances for PCGS crossover? Do you think this coin will rate a minimum MS-65 DMPL?

Is it just me or do I see a die chip in the upper portin of the G in GOD, along with doubling on the bottom inside of the loop in the G also? The top of the r in trust also looks doubled. Very nice coin!
