Looks like PSD to me. The vertical bar of the B looks extra wide to me like it was scraped.

No match in Cohen or the BIE Handbook for a 1948 IIB. The only way for me to know for sure is to have it in hand. If you want to send it in for me to look at follow this link on Cuds-on-Coins.

Yeah, too hard to tell from photos. At first glance I thought PMD, but the more I look at it, the more I think it's possibly a die chip.

I think it is a die chip. True the "B" is damaged a bit, but note the chip is not the height of the damage.

Update to topic. I got an e-mail from JC and the 1948 as been posted on C&C as LDB-1948-001. it was a die chip
