*** Edited by Staff to remove YELLING. All capital letters is the internet version of yelling. Please don't do it in titles or posts. ***

i found this 2004 low leaf quarter and went to a coin shop to have it graded. but when it came back says altered surface-unc-details extra low leaf and on front says genuine not gradable.
it's confusing. it cost me 30 dollars to grade but it's not gradable but genuine? also how is it altered when it's uncirculated. is it worth anything. I cant find any like this on the web.
please explain.

This is just my best guess...

Genuine = not a fake coin but real.. they will verify that the coin is actually REAL and not counterfeit.

UNC - details = there is some issue with the coin

Altered surface = perhaps the coin has been exposed to some chemical which has caused a reaction on the surface of the coin..

Yeah I know not much help here.. but to me the tag says it all...

The coin itself probably shows no signs of wear, therefore UNC but still something has happened to this coin where it's now a problem.

I'm not a US coin guy so I don't know the rarity of this particular coin .. but a problem coin is tough to sell... that slab is sometimes refered to as a "body bag"...

Actually a "body bag" is the little bag PCGS/ANACS/NGC sends your coin back in when it either doesn't grade the minimum grade you set for it, or its not a legitimate coin. It is literally a little baggy. Search in google images and you should get a picture.

Altered surfaces = chemically or mechanically enhanced coin surfaces. Sometimes referred to as "whizzing".
