This calls into question what side is the front.
The front is defined as the side that says the nation of mintage.
Technically, it would be the former with this definition.

But I suppose we somehow did not follow this convention with large cents, so in practice, it's the latter.

The second set of images is normal for the coin, but thanks to die rotation the first set (what we call medallic alignment) is equally possible, although much scarcer.
