Hi,

Please check out this half and tell me if you think this coin is an O-103a.

Also let me know the rarity (R) number.

Last of all, should I send this one out to PCGS for a grade and attribution or would it be a waste of money?

Thanks

I truly feel that these new 'scans' (as opposed to the initial 'photos') better show the cracks and clashes that should assist in identifying this variety.

The only features lost in these new scans are the very slight toning and light luster of the patina especially apparent on the obverse.

In addition to answering my initial questions please opine on what might be the most likely source of those obverse scratches running along ear, neck and breast.

Also, how would these obv. scratches affect the grade and retail value of this coin?

Well guys, this one has been out there for over a month now w/o getting any feedback whatsoever.

I am pretty new to attributing these Bust halves and fear that I could have possibly assigned an incorrect Overton number.

If anyone would like to attempt to answer my questions, I would greatly appreciate it.

I use the Parsley book and would agree with O-103a R-3. I can't see the reverse dentils to confirm alignment of A1,A2, and A3 but the T/I alignment matches Reverse B. The scratches do reduce the value and it would get a details grade by a TPG in my opinion.

I was hoping that someone might say that the scratches came from the die because some of the lines appear to stop and start near the devices.

I promise to post the slab when I receive it.

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate it.

Would anyone like to give an estimate of about what % $ would be deducted for this coin using retail prices found on Heritage @
