So, after reading Kurts posts about this variety I went and looked at a handful of Candian cents I had laying around. I found 2, a 1949 and a 1948 that both appear to have the A points to denticle variety. I would appreciate if you guys can confirm/reject this. Also, if it is the variety, how much do they typically go for in this condition? Thanks!

You're right--from what I've read in Charest's book, there are high relief versions (A to denticle) for both 1948 and 49--good eye! Judging by your photos, both your coins are high relief (to denticle) variety--congrats! I haven't seen a premium placed on '48, but the '49 is priced by Charlton's at $50 in EF and $60 in AU. Charest's book values it a little lower, with $15.75 in F-15, $17.25 in VF-20, and $22 in VF-30. And that's a little low against market, because I have seen ICCS graded versions in VF-20 selling for $20-30.

KurtS, I just got over 3000 cents in, in the last 24 hours. In them are a TON of '40's. In the '40's are a ton of '48, and 49's! Looks like I am going to be busy, checking your posts, (because they are so much bigger than the photos in the book) This "chore" I look forward to! Dick!

Dick, wow--that's great to hear! You know, if you find a lot of good '49 ATs, you could ICCS certify them and make a very good sale on auctions! I have yet to find an American dealer that looks for these coins.

KurtS, in that batch of 1800 cents the dates were'37, to '52. There are a few later dates, but singles. I sorted those, and also 26 rolls of bank rolls,(4 BU), and the rest circulated. over 3000 coins. They went inti tubes, from th hand, without checking. That way, when I get ready to check each one, I will be able to go by rolls. I sorted out the '47, regular, and thenhe mapleleaf by the "7", so that I could gofor the "pointed/blunt, without having to work the regular coins. There are two rolls of them. They seem to just about balance out, blunt/pointed. It has been rough, but the job is done, and the searech will begin! Dick

Dick, that sounds like a smart plan! I went through perhaps a thousand pennies from 37-52, and first sorted out the 47s and 49s. I managed to find 5 more '49 ATs!

Nice work guys. I have only found 2 and I live here in Canada... Both were in a lot of perhaps 300 pennies I got in California for $1- Thats 3 pennies for just one U.S. cent. Both were sharp XF so that paid for a few more coins...

WTG!. I use Chucks search method, (have for years), but recently devised a way to go thru a roll, or many rolls, and not have to search out the ones in particular, that I want to see. They go from roll, tube, or in hand to a row of dated tubes, and they in turn make up the tubes, (rolls if tubes aren't used). Less handling that way, and the un-filled tubes, or paper rolls can be left in place for the next input of coins. It still makes them easiy to access when one wants to check a particular date, or dates. These racks, (with different sets of dates placed on the base, makes it real easy to search, sort, or store. I'll post another photo of the system. I use different boxes for Canadian, or US coins. Found so far to date several pointed, blunf "7" on the '47 cent, a few 65, Var.3, (many coins to be checked, yet). Several rolls of '48, '49' 50, '51, amd '52 rolls pending. I 'll try to get some photos, later. Dick

Pattiewhack--You might find this amusing, but both Dick and I also happen to live in California. It seems to be the state to cherrypick Canadians! Those '49s must have migrated down here with the geese.

KurtS, I have checked only five, so far, but two are AT's, and three are between. I'll let you know how many more show. This might have been some ones "hoard" of varieties!..the dates ran fron 1937-1962, and VERY heavy on the 40's. There are five tuubes of 48's, and two 49's. Later: A re-check of the '49's shows all five are AT's! Dick

Dick, that's great! On Saturday, I went through a "hoard" of cents rolled years ago. For some reason, people were saving '48s. There must have been 6 rolls of that year, but no rolls of 49s All the same, I found 5 new 49ATs in the loose stuff!

KurtS, Hi again, I went thru the '49'(ers), and found only two of the AT's, but going thru the 48's. I have alnost a dozen of the Betweens, (which are the var. 2. Just the opposite of the 49's. Still have three tubes to go. Nice finds! keep it up! I forgot to mention that my "hoard" came from AZ. All in very good* condition. *(not the grade). Dick

Dick, Then I can only guess I stumbled upon a cache of these coins. At first, I actually thought they weren't too scarce, but I'm beginning to change my mind on that idea!
