Here's a holiday counterstamp ...

Happy-Thanksgiving-To-All-My-CCF-Friends-....

This unusual counterstamp on a 1963 Proof Franklin half has some foundation in history. Ben Franklin proposed that the turkey should be our national bird. Thankfully, from my humble perspective, the eagle won out. Note that the counterstamped turkey was centrally positioned on the Liberty Bell.

Mel Wacks issued these counterstamps, all on silver, proof halves. They were enclosed inside postal FDC's (First Day Covers), dated November 25, 1976 and mailed from the town of Turkey, Texas.

The intended issue was 500, but collectors only gobbled up a few hundred.
