I found a penny stuck to the basement flour in my utility room. I got it unstuck. It looks like it has laundry detergent and its oxidized on both sides.

Is there a way I can get rid of the laundry detergent without doing any damage to the copper?

let me start by saying in general, cleaning coins is not good. It usually removes most of the added value. But since your cent is probably only worth $.01 soaking it in pure acetone should work, but unless you already have some, that will cost you more than $.01

A 1986 cent is not Copper.
I would suggest just spending it. I wouldn't put it in with other coins to save.

It's not worth saving in my opinion. You can find a much better example by going to the bank with $5.00 & buying 10 rolls, then spend what you don't wanna keep.
