All original, not one of those modern plated 1883 N/C V nickels to look like racketeer nickels. Certainly has not been cleaned. The vertical scratches and almost cloudiness look is from what's left of the gold plate. Got this Racketeer nickel at my LCS last week, for, well, you guys might be a bit jealous here, $0.25...
