I saw an article on the site of an individual who was building a set of graded Franklins and I've been intrigued ever since. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to locate the thread.
Besides that, Ive begun research on purchasing a set of Franklins and I want to know some opinions of fellow coin goers.
1. PCGS or NGC 2. MS or PR 3. 63/64/65 or greater.
If someone knows where I can locate the thread previously mentioned please do share so I can continue my research. I would like to make my first purchase near or on Christmas as a gift to myself and a start to my collection.

I don't remember a thread on a set of graded Franklins. I personally am collecting proof cameo 66 or better graded halves with three to go.

Slabbed Franklins look really nice.
I do have a set in Dansco album, but have a few slabbed ones too.
My choices 1. NGC 2. Both 3. MS 64 or better - for proof PR 66 or better

1, Either 2. Do MS; PF can come later, 3. Highest grade you can afford. (Definitely NOT -60, -61 or -62.)

I agree.
I don't think I'll go with PR coins just becuause that seems like an elite thing to do and I would like to start simple.
As for purchasing raw coins, I don't think I'll do that because I wouldn't want to handle a coin that's not protected in some respect.

So after much research and looking around online, I purchased a MS63 1962 Franklin online.
I decided to go with the MS 63 first because one, I can afford it and two, I can always crack the slab and put them into a DANSCO when I replace them with nicer coins.
I'll post pictures when it comes it.

Many years ago I put together a complete set of certified Franklin half dollars with most of them being FBL at as high of grade as I could buy. In the end I had it registered on the NGC site because they allow listing both NGC and PCGS coins. It was a highly rated coin set and it cost me a lot of money and after finishing it I kept it for a year and then broke it up and sold it off. Why, because I just couldn't justify the cost and I already had two uncertified sets that were high grade and so I moved on. I sometimes still believe I made a bad decision selling it off but I did what I thought was right at the time. Most people don't view the Franklin half dollars as pretty coins but to me they are a great coin that is over shadowed by the Walking Liberty half dollar which is a breath taking design. I still have a weakness for Franklin half dollars and is there a cure?

So I made my first purchase of a coin this past week of s coin that I saw online and I wanted to buy. So below are two images of the coin I bought. It's simple to start - 1962 P MS 63 coin. I would like your opinion? Good? Bad? Fair or indifferent, leave me a comment.

The set you are putting together can be acquired in several levels as defined by you and that is what you define in a Franklin half dollar that you want. If you want a balanced set meaning all around the same grade and look or one based on the average price you pay for the coins in the set as some are rarer than others. My second set of Franklins had nearly 80% of the coins broken out of certified slabs that rated MS 65 and now I look back on that and think how silly I was. But I love the set and the coins all have the same look to them. My thing to look for were clean surfaces with little to no dings especially in the face and field. It's actually something that is number 1 with most of the coins I buy. I will buy a weaker strike than a stronger strike if the latter has a lot of scratches and dings.

Can someone help educate me and on verbiage?
Relief. Type, strike, field, etc.
To me, I think that the design on the Franklin coins are beautiful. I hope that I'll be able to purchase some coins in a higher grade (64-65) if I have more expendable cash at that point in time.
