Recently when our family was cleaning out our grandparents place we found a bulk lot of 1c 2c & 5c coins with around 5kg of coins for each type.

We were wondering if there where any rare or interesting 1c 2c or 5c coins through the years that we could look for, after finding the bulk lot we are starting to get interested in collecting.

Apologies if this has already been asked before, but as I said earlier we very new to this.

Cheers,

Oliver

if they're all post decimal 1966, I say this because you say 2 cents and 5 cents. likely not, but you can look for cool errors. Here is a neat link with values that might help you in your research.

You can certainly look for 1972 5 cent, that is the rarest 5 cent in circulaiton.
For 2 cents look for errors/variries, such as 1967 1968 1981 2 cents without SD mintmark.

Good luck

I hope you have a great time looking. Yes, I think dealers pay about 5 dollars for a 72 5 cent. They sell for abou 10 on ebay. One you'll need of you want to make a set!

Thanks guys, yeah they are all decimal. I notice that in many years the 2 cents produced at both the RAM and PM, are there differences between these like the 1981 20c or are the same?

I think the blunted claw or whatever it is for 1966 persisted but I believe that claw is also prone to die fill.
