In various places I have purchased 8 or 9 various 3-inch coin replicas, including Buffalo and Jefferson nickels, a couple different pennies and more.

While these are often pretty decent replicas considering they are so cheap and large I noticed one thing that was weird: On the Jefferson nickel there was "Copy" stamped below Monticello on the reverse. None of the other coins have this.

Why would just this "coin" have this stamp and not the others? Could it be that the prototype building is privately owned?

It is stamped "copy" to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Hobby Protection Act of 1973. Not all manufacturers of such, especially foreign ones, necessarily do so, although technically it is likely required in order to legally sell them in the U.S.

I haven't seen one with copy on it. I think they are rather nice looking replicas though.

I recently acquired 2 of these coins and they are definitely interesting. The two I have don't have copy on them either. Did the mint make these or were they made by random people/companies?
