Getting close to the end of searching my bucket of wheat cents and found this with the '53 S group. Saw the reverse first and thought, "Hey, kind of a pretty coin," then flipped it For a little fun I soaked it in acetone for a day or two and the brown surfaces are nice, but although those spots will darken some, it will always be a problem coin. Wasn't really worth anything, of course, but fun to do some before and after shots.

That's a shame. I've tried to rescue a few myself and the results aren't ever very good.

Thanks for posting the results of your experiment.

Though you still ended up with a problem coin, the results of your experiment were pretty good. The "after" picture shows considerable improvement! You've shown that some coins (even if not this one) can be saved.

Thanks for sharing this.

Well, good luck. PS - always remember to seal your coin in it's acetone solution to retard evaporation.

You should also do this again in a new solution. Not as long but to clean the coin.

Well, referring to the gif, it appears the coin actually got more corroded on the left (top right side)
