I stopped at the local Goodwill thrift store this afternoon and saw a small wooden plaque that looked like it had a silver bar inside of it. The price was a $1.99 so I took a chance on it.

Put it back in the wooden plaque; that is where it belongs. It will most probably tone faster there, but doest that really matter?

By the way, congratulations on a great silver pickup!

Nice find.

It's in good shape, too. Being in a plaque like it was, it could have easily been scratched or polished. But it didn't!!

There was a clear plastic shield screwed across the front of it, holding the bar in place. So that kept it from being damaged, maybe since the 1980's, because I think that is when this World Wide Mint (WWM) ingot is from.

Keep lookin' Chip, because a few years ago I found an almost complete set of 3-inch bronze US Mint Presidential Medals at a thrift store for $5 apiece. They were also mostly in their original mint boxes.
Rest in Peace

Ah! A plastic shield -- even so the wood could have caused it to change color.

Also, I agree re: "Keep looking." I don't make a point of it but I do stop in at our local Goodwill if I'm in the area. I've found silver pitchers and stuff that I didn't particularly want -- but they make great donations at white elephant auctions. When you can buy stuff like that for less than $2 -- why not?

Great Eye! I was at a Goodwill last year and found a brand new Willie Nelson book for $1. When I got it home I found that it was signed on the title page, as well as in the back of the book. So I kept it in new condition and read the kindle version instead. Sometimes you find good stuff there.
