Just added this one to my collection. Anyone know anything more about it since the information isn't very thorough. What date does Sellwood 24/9 put it at for instance? What are the words on the reverse, can anyone read them?

Great pick up, David. I see you followed up on at least one of the top five (#2, actually) from your "Top coin types (mixed)" thread/survey. Well done!

Yes, Sellwood 24.9, Shore 69. The four line Greek legend translates as something like "Great King Arsakes the Epiphanes (or god manifested)" I believe.

For the Greek, see the first legend listed for Mithradates II here: http://snible.org/coins/hn/parthia.html or see here: http://mail.coinproject.com/coin_de...?coin=233564

Dates were rarely included on Parthian drachms, and this is no exception. So the broad span of Mithra's long reign is used: 123-88 BC.

Sellwood lists the 24.9's as Ecbatana mint.

Thank you very much for that useful information Bob. I will go back to those threads again to see if there is anything else I should be chasing :)

Glad you like it Ron, took me a while to pull the trigger but eventually found a coin I liked at a price that I thought was fair. (though funnily enough they added 19% tax on top of the listed V-coins price, which is an unusual situation so it didn't work out particularly cheap in the end)

That's kind of puzzling about the tax being added on, the only fees I ever come across on Vcoins are shipping and the occasional paypal fee from certain dealers. It seems a little deceptive to add on the tax afterwards when no other dealer on there is doing that.

I don't usually buy coins from outside the U.S. but recently I have bought a few from a dealer from the UAE on Vcoins . Knock on wood I haven't had any problems with additional taxes and custom fees. He chargers only $6.00 shipping which seems reasonable considering it's coming from half way across the world.
