Hi
The past week or so I have been going through the pennies I have for the 80's decade.

I have already been through hundreds and only a few various results, 2 lamination errors, 1 very cook Die Break and also die crack on same coin.

I started on 1983 last night and have already come upon 2 that I believe have errors. A lot of you are already familiar with my posts and usually I am wrong (because I am still learning how to identify the differences). I only mention all of this first to see if these errors (if you all confirm that they are) for 1983 are pretty common, I don't usually have 2 like this. I was thrilled to see the first coin and then when the second came up I figured I still had it wrong or that it was a common problem for this date.

So my first coin I believe is a double 83 and D/D and I have checked doubledie and coppercoins but really couldn't determine a match.

The second coin I believe is a D/D, it also has the thicker 3 and I believe the doubling on the letters is from a worn die.

I am really hoping that I have identified these things correctly.

Thank you for all your help and let me know if you would like any additional pictures.

Thanks
Sandy

Looks like you have a coin that is starting to show Die Deterioration. (Shows usually on the devices facing in the direction of the rim) There also is an issue with the mint mark. It has split plating in the same direction as the rim on the mint mark. But note the gray color in that on the area? That is from the plating being split and now showing the zinc under the plating exposed. On coin one there is some flattening from circulation on the top of the 3. Coin # 2 is showing Die Deterioration also on obverse and reverse.

Thanks coop, really wrong again? I knew that the letting had the worn die ( Die Deterioration) but I thought for sure the
D/D was correct - especially on the #2 coin - there is no gray/silver showing at all. On the fist coin I don't see it either but the coin is dirtier.

OH Well

The overall all size of the mint mark is all the same. On a RPM, part of the mint mark will be enlarged or show a spread. The #2 looks normal from what I can see.

Just disappointed.
