Hi all! I'm trying to identify four Dutch war medals for my Grandfather. (sorry about poor quality photos) WHAT I KNOW: - They were given to my grandfather by his grandfather who was born in the Netherlands in 1843. - I've identified some of his other medals as being from the Aceh War (1873-1904). - The two medals on the right are made of a much thinner metal and of a more rudimentary design. I would love to find out more information on them for my Grandfather and also to learn more about my own family history. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You might see if you can spot any matches on this website http://www.omsa.org/photopost/Is there any writing on the back of the medals? Makers marks, etc. Medals aren't an area I have much knowledge of however I wanted to try and give your inquiry a reply. Maybe someone else here will be able to give you more assistance. to the CCF. -MV

Thank you, I appreciate the help!
I'll see if I can track them down through the database, otherwise someone there might be able to point me in the right direction.
Unfortunately I only have photos of the front of the medals so I can't say if they have writing or makers marks on the back. They are currently in the possession of my Grandfather who lives halfway across the country. I snapped the photos quickly while I was visiting a few weeks ago. They were inside a glass display case in a very delicate condition so I decided not to remove them for the time being.

Your current settings for CCF are closed to receiving email. I'm not sure if this is because of your newbie status or if it is the way you've set them. I can put you in touch with somone who can help you, but won't put his email address in public.

alganbagerap,
I can't email you through your profile because of my newbie status but as I mentioned above I've changed my own profile so you should be able to email me.
If you could put me in touch with someone who could give me more information that would be great!

Try Google images: "netherlands war medals", and "dutch war medals", and troll through the images.
You may find a match for what you are looking for, and to start an investigation.
Google images is a far under utilised numismatic search tool.

Thanks,
I've actually spent hours scrolling google images for these ones with every possible form of "dutch war medals" "netherlands decorations" and so forth.
I was able to identify some of the other medals this way but unfortunately these four remain a mystery.

UPDATE: I've identified the medal on the far left! http://www.onderscheidingen.nl/nl/m...en/vebk.htmlApparently it's a member's badge of the Dutch veterans association "Het Eereteeken voor Belangrijke Krijgsverrigtingen". The crown was added after the association was bestowed with the honorific "Royal" in september 1877. It also says the badge was changed soon afterwards, still in 1877, because it was felt to be too reminiscent of piracy! I'm still searching for the other three, but I'll post updates if I find anything.
