I would like a second opinion on this coin. I initially graded it AU-58 due to exceptional luster, and it has not been dipped. Lately I've learned that what appears to be a little bit of wear on the shield and head may actually be from an incomplete or weak strike. What do you guys think?

Hi Numismat,
Very pretty quarter! Your photo shows some strong luster and I expect the coin does deserve at least a 55 if not 58. I think I can see a touch of rub over the drapery on the shield and on Liberty's right knee. The obverse rim beading also looks like it has some wear, particularly around the 8 o'clock position.

The head looks full or nearly so. As I recall Full Head requires separation of the leaves in Liberty's hair. The ear hole and a complete hair line edge from Liberty's brow to the back of her neck must be visible. This coin looks awfully close.

FYI, PCGS and maybe other TPGs will certify AU coins as Full Head if the strike is good enough. I sent in an AU 1924-D coin to PCGS and they graded it AU-55 FH. If the full head designation is important to you it might be worth sending it in for grading.
