Hello I thought someone here can help. Is this 1864 some kind of missstrike/error as the numbers 64 are very visibly raised compared to the 18 and much further away from the edge. Is this something very rare and how much premium would it be worth? Here is the coin: Edited by Cointosser77 12/13/2015 07:38 am

IMO the strike was just a bit stronger in that area. Die alignment was a chore in those days.
No premium.

Oh not what I hoped to hear but thanks for the quick reply. In Krause it distinguishes between large and small motto, having never seen a 1864 USA 2 cent before and looking at the still visible 'N' I would think it is the large motto?

Yes, large motto. You may be able to get $8 or $10 for it on the US market.

Thanks for quick replys! So in the Krause catalogue this would still count as VG?

Kanga nailed it, uneven strike, unless the planchet is much thinner at the top, though from the rims it appears at be fairly even, only an edge shot would show that definitively. As said it is a Large Motto and I'd grade it around VG8 myself. As to the position of the date, the Two Cent Pieces have dates punched into the dies not the hub, so there are not only many variations on placement, spacing, but the actually used more than one style of typeset on them as well, there is a much thinner type a box style and the one shown on your coin, none are commanding any sort of premium though.
