I picked up this 34-D PD for $128. It's a PCGS MS62. Seems pretty low to me considering the MS63 book price is $375. I don't know what the book value of a MS62 is because they don't list them on the PCGS site but I'd say it's likely higher than $128. I don't have the money to sink $300+ on a MS63 anyway.

I know it has a couple of "dots" on the observe but I'll take that any day of the week over heavy tonight. I'm working towards a bright white collection. Am I missing something obvious for why this sold for such a good price? Did the few spots really kill the value that much?

Looks to be ebay item 161913332976

If you look at the PCGS cert page for your particular coin http://www.PCGS.com/cert/26622579), you can see the value is $245.

The luster on the front is pretty good for the grade, but I think the carbon spots are really what held it down.

I think you paid about the right price for this. A choice 62 might be worth more, but not with the spots, which clearly detract from the eye-appeal.

PCGS DOES list it, for $245

The coin might not have good eye appeal, and that could be why it sold for such a low value... with those pics, it looks like it might not have full luster, which is a contending factor to poor eye appeal.

What "book price" were you using as a refrence? The Red Book is about 20% above retail, If you were using PCGS (which I'm inferring that you were based off of your verbage) the price listed is completely unrealistic (unless you are looking at the auction history quote). However, recent 34-D's in MS-62 have sold on ebay between $131-$175, so you did alright.

Thanks everyone. I was just going by the main PCGS page for Peace dollars http://www.PCGS.com/prices/pricegui...eace+dollar). I didn't realize there was a "grades 61-70" tab above! Oh well, it's definitely not going to be the gem of my collection but I think it will do, especially for the price. I'd love to get perfect coins but I simply can't afford it. I've still got a long way to go before I complete my slabbed PD set!

Just a FYI on pricing as to the PCGS market site, I take around 20-40% off their prices unless the coin is really tough to find or a superb gem for it's series. That is probably closer to what a dealer to dealer is paying at wholesale pricing, of course a retail shop or dealer is going to mark up the coin to cover his expenses, but in the Coin World, the only sure price guide is at an auction, and for more common coins like this one, ebay completed sales is a good way to gauge the current market value.
