Just went through a box of nickels. No buffalo's, but I found 32 pre-1960 Jeffersons, including a 45-P war, and (2) 49-S  . Up until now, I only had one 49-S, which I found back in a roll back in 1994. I am going to get another box this week from the same bank. |

I have been reading this thread for I while, I'm was not into roll searching at all. But I started the journey today while depositing my check, with a very modest two roll search. I have keep the coins that had minimal nicks, maybe I'm being to critical. But I found the following coins,
1941-D VG
1962-D G
1971-D EF With Full Steps
1990-D MS
2005-P "Oceans in View" Keep this because of the Philadelphia mint, us coin collectors in Minnesota don't get very many of these in this region!
Any tips on storing all the coins that one finds while doing roll searching? I'm a big fan of the Mylar 2 X 2's.
Thanks for any input that people on this thread could provide!

I've been going through tons of cents lately; taking a little break from nickels. I'll be doing some nickel updates in about a week or so. Yeah I picked them up last night. They came off a Garda truck. ( I think that's who delivers to my bank. Sound right? ) Holy cow! No wonder nobody is going through more than two boxes at a time. These babies are heavy! Peering through the holes they look to be pretty shiny in there. I almost think they are the same dates. They have the old Jefferson face so that's good. I just am admiring them sealed for awhile before I get onto them. I also have another Verdi-care ( BadThad ) experiment that has to get done first. I wonder whats in there? See, I can love any date nickel, it doesn't have to be pre 1960. Maybe there is a 1982 P or D? Maybe a 1969 D with almost full steps? and maybe, just maybe a 1946 D over inverted D? Edited by TNG

did some pennies, like dimes, gonna try nickels soon. I think I save too many coins. I gotta get more organized or I'm gonna be up to my elbows in coins here.

If you become a dedicated roll-searcher you will soon be overwhelmed with coins to 'save' ..... so my method is simple .... I store all my nickel finds in the purple sacks that come with a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey ....... not the best organizational method in the world but it works for me. Someday my heirs will have to sort it all out and ... well ... by then I won't care. Good to have you back roll-searching wheezydog ..... you are the CCF resident expert on the series (my humble opinion) ..... and look forward to hearing of your results. nickelsearcher - lol, I have 5 of those Crown Royal bags with coins in them that need sorted. Mostly they are the 38-59 extras and a few dateless Buffs.
I keep all of the wars and dated buffs in tubes.
17 rolls into a box tonight, 3 wars (42P, 43P, 44P) and one dateless Buff. 10 other "keepers" from 39-46....nothing from the 50's so far!
Congrats dylansdad on the V! I've yet to find one of those!

Yes, over 16000 rolls, but I am having a minor case of burnout at the moment! I am sitting on two 100 roll updates, and a local bank that I deal with that has a counting machine in the lobby called me today and told me they have a full bag ready for me. I'll pick that up tomorrow.

Right now the desk where I conduct my coin collecting endeavor is a little out of control (flat out its a mess). The weather for this part of Minnesota this weekend calls for rain, plan on stopping at the bank Friday for some more nickle rolls to search. Again thanks for reply!

I need to cut down on my hoarding at some point. My storage method has been to reuse the String wrappers and sort them by decade - pre-60 and by decade after that for keepers. Of course I've also got separate rolls for the Westward Journey nickels and each year post-WJ...yeah...I'm up to almost $200 of hoarded nickels...I've gotta do something about that. I've gotten much more discerning of late, but I'm sure I could pitch almost half of what I kept early on if I'd take the time to do that again. We have rain in the forecast this weekend too (Iowa) so maybe this is a good time to go through those.

I finished off that box, best box in a while. Ended up with 3 wars, 42P, 43P and 44P. Also got 3 dateless Buffs (no mintmarks). There were 25 other pre-59's as well, including 3 more 39's.
The only foreign from this box was a 1982 Cayman Islands .10. Pretty cool looking with a turtle on the back.

I searched a Brinks box yesterday and here are the results:
1 1939
19 from the 1940's - no war, but 3 S mints
11 from the 1950's - 1 S mint
10 S mint from 1968,69,70
10 Canadian, oldest was 1965.
