what? you mean just toned nickels in general?
yeah I've found a few already...i just rolled them back up bc I figured they weren't worth anything.

Yea they probably aren't unless they're in good shape. That's just what I'm going for in my Dansco. Lightly toned BU coins.

Found a BU golden toned 59 last weekend. Really nice eye appeal. However, in general I don't see them too often. I do see a decent amount of toned 2006 & 7's but I don't count those.

Guys,is it just me or are all of you finding very little old stuff in boxes anymore? When I started roll searching 2 years ago there was always SOMETHING worthwhile in a box. The last couple of months I am seeing an occasional beat up 1940 or two but no quality or quantity of pre-1958. I am a pretty patient fella and have been through droughts before but I am beginning to wonder if there is any more meat on the bones out there. You guys keeping stats,are you seeing any significant changes over the last say 3-6 months? or has my luck just run out?

Well if you don't hold onto the toned one's at least send me a PM :). I'd love to give ya'll something for em :).
I really don't know if they are worth anything, but I love the eye appeal. It's something that's relatively inexpensive for me to collect and it's pretty sweet to show off :).
Once I get my Digital SLR I'll take some pictures for you guys.

hockingzig, I've noticed that in cents. There seem to be no more wheats that I can find.
The oldest thing I ever got out of a roll of nickels (I've been collecting for a year now) was a 1940. It wasn't exactly in the best condition

Funny you all are saying this. It seems like someone has dumped a ton of wheats in my area, mostly 40's and 50's, but I'm finding a few older. I've been averaging almost 1 wheat per roll for my last couple of boxes - easily 2-3 times my normal average.

I just finished a box of nickels and a box of cents and both were grim. One Wheat cent in a whole box,and copper % was only 16,down from 23. The nickels were awful too. 3 54 D's,a beat up 40 and 2 Canadians. Depressing! |

My last box was good, but before that I had about a 6 box streak of junk. I can't imagine I'm searching enough nickels to actually get my cast offs back, but you never know. Find rate has dropped across the board for me in the past two months according to my spread sheet.

As far as nickels are concerned, I have noticed a slight uptick as far as finding older ones are concerned. I had been averaging 40-50 per 2 boxes (100 rolls) but recently have been averaging 50-60 per. Cents: I totally agree with the Wheat cent assessment. Used to get about 15 or so in a box; been lucky to get 10 recently, and most of them look awful. One interesting exception: last week I found a 1911d! That means in the last year I have found the first Denver Mint cent and the first Denver Mint nickel (12d) in bankrolls! |

best box ever as far as buffalos are concerned for me 5 yes 5 of them 3 dated and 2 dateless 1918D 1927 1930S other then that just a bunch of 40's and 50's no silver but i'll take dated Buffalo nickels over silver ones anyday |

my second box of nickels this week was a full box of 2010P
this is the second time this has happened although now I can trade and sell items
if anyone wants a roll or 2 or anything let me know
I will also post a spot for these on the trade and sell forums

i just finished my 8th box of nickels. I found one hole filler, leaving only 9 left to find. (1938D & S, 39D, 42S, 43D, 44D, 45D, 50D, 51S). I also got 2 buffalo's (1918P, & 1928P). brings my total to 6 buffalo's in 8 boxes. seems like a pretty good find rate, but I'm just guessing about that. so far I have found at least one hole filler in every box I have searched. I predict that streak will probably end very soon.
