Yes it is a lot of fun, I found my old collection from when I was a kid and thought it would be fun to finish off my old album. I ordered a couple new albums last week so I plan on working to get those completed as well.

Well, I think I'm going to give this a shot and search a few boxes and see what I can find. Seems like a lot of fun and appears that you can find a reasonable number of older coins from circulation.
What dates constitute a find on this forum. Looks like 1960 and older, but are there others that fit the profile?

HI everyone,
nice thread! I'm wondering what is your method of searching a roll? Lay em all face up, with a magnifier?
It seems like you're getting thrum rolls really fast.

I spread them out all face up and look at them with a pair of near vision only glasses on.

box #44 down no sliver-33/44 33 silver 1-buff-its been a while! 1913 P type 1! That ties for my oldest coin found roll searching! also my second type 1 buff.  no Vs no proofs foreign- 1975 belquie francs or something like that that a few good pre60s til next time! hey I just realized I hit 2000 posts! Bernie, when I search I open a roll and dump it on a towel in my lap. Then I pick up a handful of coins and look at them one by one. When I am finished looking at them I dump them into a plastic bucket that I use when I take them back to the banks. Works well for me.

Finished my 1st box and found 42 pre-sixty era coins inclusive of one 39D, but the best find by far is a 2005 bison that has had the reverse what appears to be hand painted.
An incredibly detailed coloring of the bison that looks as if it was done professionally and probably marketed as a novelty type coin, but checked the web and couldn't find anything other than painted bison cuff links. Is anyone familiar with a nickel that was put out by some home shopping network type company and sold with reverse painting?
If I can take a decent photo, I will post.

The photo is somewhat washed out, but you can get the idea. The actual coin is darker and much more crisp in appearance. Any guesses as to what and why this was done?

That looks like a colorized coin from that rip-off place Littleton Coin Company! They had colorized State Quarters too. All worthless junk.  |
