I have found 67 pre-1982 Canadian nickels and they are almost all from string and son paper rolls. I never find them in plastic rolls and the majority of what I have searched is plastic rolls.

Here are my results for 11,250 rolls, or 450,000 nickels searched.

At this point, I lack the following to complete a Jefferson set 1938 - 2011:

1938-S, 1939-D, 1950-D.

I have a ugly 1952 in the hole waiting to find another. It fills the hole.

First post on this LONG thread...I am new to roll searching, started in pennies, and have been expanding. I have done 3 boxes (well, at my bank the rolls come in bags) of nickels so far. Got one war in my first box, then skunked in my second. However, just as I was feeling down, my third box gave up a 1943 S very early in the going. I paused half way through, then tonight finished it...got a 1943 P, and a 1945 S, as well my first buffalo (date was all worn away)! Enough excitement to make me get some more at the bank tomorrow! Hopefully that beginners luck will continue.

One question, I notice that most people seem to be keeping the pre-1960 stuff...if the anything after 1960 that I should be pulling (besides 2009's)? And, I have been keeping the best few examples from each year to make sets, is there any value in this, or should I just keep my one best set and let the others go?

This was my first V nickel and have to say it is pretty cool.


I saw in another thread that someone suggested we give specific details about where we get our rolls so that everyone has a clearer picture.

I try and get 1 box a day Monday through Friday, I get my boxes between two different Chase Bank branches in Houston, Texas. They are all machine wrapped rolls in plastic, have not been able to get any customer wrapped rolls yet.

Refreshing to get one without the crop circles. Just a trace of FS, at least no dings.
