The Goal: 25,000 Rolls Of Nickels (All Searchers Welcome!)

I did two boxes today, here are my finds.. I only listed the low mint ones:

Now, I have a couple questions.

How can I tell if the 2004-s is a silver or clad one?

Are you all reading this buffalo as a 1916-s?

Are both these 58 & 59's "black beauties?"

I'm almost positive this '64 is PMD, but I wanted another opinion. I'm referring to the "4" in "1964"

I was really hoping the '59 was a black beauty. There is definitely *some* elemental damage to the '59, but the rest doesn't look like that at all. I wish I could get better pictures of it. The '58, I would agree looks like elemental damage.

Here are two pictures of the '64, I'm leaning towards PMD. It looks like a roll hunter got fed up with '64s, and decided to do this.

I don't have a whitman folder yet, so I might buy one off ebay or at a local coin show this weekend. Then the fun really starts as I embark on my journey to plug every hole with coins from circulation. Seems like the 50D, 38D, 38S and 39S will be the toughest.

NYBrian84, I can't tell you about the black beauties, but I agree that the buffalo looks like a 1916 S.

On the 1964 nickel, it looks like someone tried to punch a hole through it, but was unsuccessful. I have seen some hole-punched halves. Maybe they wanted to wear it on a necklace?

thats a nice buffalo find with the date and mint mark, I got a bunch of buffs found from boxes, and id say usually only 1 in 8 is readable date, usually from the 30's

I think that generally the toughest are the 50d, 38d, 38s, 39d, and 43d. The silver War Nickels are getting more scarce, and the 43d was the lowest minted. A lot of people have a hard time getting that one. I have only found one so far out of the 64 boxes I have done. And for comparison, I have 4 39s so far.




And we're glad to see some new hunters join us in nickel searching NYBrian84 and SteedaFLA. Looking forward to seeing the stuff you guys find. It's fun having other people try to complete the set from circulation, and sometimes there is some friendly and fun competition. I know me and rachums both have 4 holes left to fill. I'm secretly trying to beat him to the finish ;)

I got my first V-nick (1912) on box 20, the second on box 44 (1902).

I will try and get a picture taken tomorrow and post it. This was my 40th box and is the second V nickel that I have found. The first one was about a month ago and was also a 1899 but in a lot worse shape. I did two boxes tonight and when I was starting on the second box I thought to myself that it has been a while since I found a buffalo and it sure would be nice to find one again. I found the V nickel in the second roll I searched of the second box and then found the two buffalo's in one roll after the other around 2/3 the way through the box.
