I have only found 1 V nickel in circulation and it was a 1911 last year from a vending machine. I got more nickels and cycled them through the machine but there wasn't anything else.

Went through a case of nickels a few days ago got skunked. Am thinking Canadian Nickels are tough to find good ones...won't find any silver in them. I'm stubborn though so I'll keep pluggin' away.

Nice find for you though!

2000. So far cases in all denominations haven't been too exciting. So far just getting rolls here and there has proven to be most successful. Will continue with cases for now just to make sure I give it a fair test before going back to a few rolls.

Did $20 and it seems that my lucky streak has ended. Had absolutely no keepers. Oh well, I'm happy with my V nickel

I thought I would post what for me are the toughest Nickels to find from rolls, I realize your results may vary. I will list them in the order of toughnest with quanity I have found. Keep in mind this is from well over 1 Million Nickels searched. I am not including variations on this list. Please feel free to chime in with your experiences. Thanks for looking. This list only shows Nickel I have less than one roll of. Dennis.

Dennis, I love your stats. My son and I have searched between 200-300 boxes, say 250. That puts us at about 500,000 nickels searched. Here are our stats of nickels found:

NonSilver under 15 million
50d 0
39d 4
38s 1
38d 2
39s 4

51s 22
55p 29
49s 17
50p 18

48s 23
46s 14
42d 13

Silver
42P 8
42S 3
43P 52
43D 0
43S 15
44P 32
44D 5
44S 4
45P 23
45D 7
45S 7

Given that you have searched about twice as many as us, you have found it much easier to find the "rare 5", but we have found it easier to find some of the other non silver coins under 15 million. I wonder what accounts for these differences after such large numbers have been searched. Perhaps geography.

Ha, Jon, I guess it is the luck of the draw, for instance look at the 55P which is a very underated Nickel, you have found 10 more than I have in quite a few less boxes searched, just never know. How many 38P's have you found, I only just finiised a roll of them, they are tough as is the 46S which I also justed finished a roll. You all are doing good for sure, I appreciate that you hunt with your son, I don't have a son myself but my nephew helps me from time to time, he knows as much about them as I do. I had planned to lay off nickels for a while but I am addicted to them fo sure. Thanks for the kind words and Good Luck to you and your son. Dennis.

Wow, love that rotated nickel...think the best rotation I have is maybe 20 degrees.

I guess I'm still pretty new at searching with only two cases. I do like nickels even though no chance of silver in Canada. I find Nickels and Penny give me a chance to find some oldies as dimes and quarters is difficult to find silver which leaves with 1968 or more recent finds.

That rotated nickel is really awesome! I've been looking for a rotated coin (any denomination) for a long time and haven't found any significant ones.
