Went through half a box so far today and didn't find much.... :(. What's interesting though is that I found two Canadian nickels, but not a single US 2009! LOL

Hi Agrippa - I only did 7 rolls this weekend - took a little time off after pouring over 100 rolls of cents. After at least a couple of weekends of no Canadians, I got a 1960 this weekend but no 2009s. I've found 4 or 5 since I restarted CRHing two months ago or so; 2009 is an elusive date. Still trying to find a 2009 D as all have been Ps thus far. As a result, light finds this weekend but did get a 1938 Jefferson. However I did read up on the Jefferson nickel here and on the web. If you haven't read nickelsearcher's write-ups here, I recommend you do. Interesting snippets to help optimize your hunts! Good luck!! |

Hi, new guy here. I just started hunting nickels for my pre-63 Jefferson album. I have a few finds I'd like to share, as well as a couple questions. First, a photo of my finds.    Second, my questions: 1) What is wrong with the "blurry" nickel? I think I can make out a 1999 D. Is it a grease error? Is it worth keeping? 2) Is there any way to "shine" the Buffalo nickel? In the condition it is in I cannot see a date on the obverse, so I did not bother with a photo of it. Thanks to all in advance for your input...I am enjoying the nickel hunting so far and like browsing the site! |

Agrippa, that's a beauty. I wish I found one that nice.
Next week when I'm home on spring break I talked to my bank and am getting a bag of nickels from their coin machine. Unsearched nickels...my favorite.

$50 loomis rolls. about half were 2012/2013's these 3 were in 1 roll     this one looks much better in hand and glows with gold toning   |

Picked up $100 in CWRs. Found 2 1945-Ps and about 20 pre-60 that worth worth keeping. Whenever I open rolls I can usually spot the War Nickels immediately from the coloring. Occasionally though, one of those "definite" War Nickels turns out to be a 1946. I've read that there were some leftover planchetts from the war years that were used in 1946. Is there a way of determining the metal composition of one of these? I know there is a handheld tester for gemstones. Is there a similar device for metals? |
