The Goal: 25,000 Rolls Of Nickels (All Searchers Welcome!)

Mendelman â€" too bad they were acid treated, but a fun discovery. Not bad for $60 search and with a bit of silver too. I tend to do shorter roll searches than some of the heavyweights here, but I've had productive yields.

Agrippa â€" Thanks. When I saw your '57 I wanted to post about the '38 S, but I didn't have the picture yet. I know folks here enjoy the pics! I've recently hit a stream of ‘38s and ‘39s of late. And given your streak of good fortune, it won't be long before you claim one for yourself.

Furryfrog â€" isn't that the truth!! I was looking at my '38, '39, and a few 40s and 50s that I've plucked from circulation. I've been very fortunate and now I get to add this '38 S. As I noted above, folks have to look at the shiny ones too. I'm amazed that XF and better coins, 70+ years old or older, can be found in circulation. My nickel album is nearly all from CRHing (I can think of only one War Nickel I picked up on the cheap, but otherwise, all from circulation). I find War Nickels now and again, but not like the ‘old days'. So while I try to piece together my set of Jeffersons, I wonder if I'll be able to find the elusive War Nickels gobbled up by silver hoarders or the rarer semi-key coins in circulation. The '38 S is one of those hole fillers. Down to 11 holes to fill I think.

OK, the balance of the hunt -
2400 nickels looked at
20 or so pre-1960 ('38S and 44P being the best)
5 S mint Jeff's (XF/AU '68S and '70S)
7 or so post-1960 (AU '70D and a few from the early/mid '80s)

Mostly common finds, but recreational just the same. Ratios look similar to past weeks.

Checked ~$50 worth of nickels last night. Main finds were a 1972 proof (my second), a Bermuda 5-cent coin (my first), and an absolutely untouched 2009 CAD that I simply had to keep for fear someone may scratch it

Today is a ~$200 nickel dump day for me, so I'll stop at a bank on my way home from work. I'd love to exchange nickel for nickel while at a single bank branch, but I have yet to find a branch that will do it. Of course, I would only do it one time at each branch to ensure I don't get my own dumps back in the future, but it would save me some time if they would simply trade nickel for nickel. Oh well, this is part of the process.
