Went through $30 in CWR last night. One 1943-P War Nickel plus a handful of pre-60's. I am not to the point of re-sorting my pre-60's for lower mintage dates and deciding what to do with the rest. It takes alot of nickels to add up to $100, which I have set as the arbitrary level where I will re-sort. I find CRH-ing is much like fishing. I never know when I'll get a bite and reel in a good one. Now if only I could eat nickels...  |

$50 in MWRs of nickels last night with almost nothing to show for the effort...Disappointing  . One of them, a 2000-D, was marked by a CRHer, which I rarely see  . I hope you all have better luck on your next 1,000 nickels  |

I've never searched nickels before.. was at the bank and they only had $30 in halves so I asked for $10 in nickels... no silver, but got a 1939 and 1941 (and a bunch of early 60's).. are coins this old common among nickel searching? I think I'll have to work on a nickel collection.

One of my banks forgot to order my halves last week so I picked up a box of cents and box of nickels. All I found was a bunch of common pre-'60 nickels and an '83 Canadian. I was hoping for another Buffalo like the previous box or some silver, but no such luck.

CLS12... your finds are fairly typical. Nickels will yield 60+ year old coins much more consistently than pretty much any other denomination, which is why they are so popular. 1940, 1941, 1946, 1947, and most of 1954-Present are all so easy to find that many collectors won't even keep them. I found that a typical box (50 rolls) will yield about a dozen pre-1960 nickels. My worst box ever only had two from the 1940s, and my best ever had roughly 130 from 1938-1959.
Also, those are some FANTASTIC buffalos! Must have escaped from a collection!

nickel box - 40-D, 48-D, 51, 54-S & 57.
My nickel boxes have been pretty weak on keepers recently.

I was depositing a check at my local bank yesterday. The teller said she had $40 in extra nickels if I was interested. I wasn't really there for coins but I took them anyway. I found a 1944-S and my second 1950-D.
The 50-D is in great shape and is a nice upgrade from my first.
