Ouch!! So many 'dull' coins without mintmarks until the '80s. Then some 'interest' was added I suppose. You are being spoiled!!

I opened the box and saw the D looking up at me and thought to the comment I made to Dan earlier - wouldn't you know!! Too bad for the roller damage, but it'll hold a spot for now as it fills one more hole. Decent start to this box: 1+ coin a roll so far with some more interesting dates/MMs.

Have a great 4th everyone (domestically speaking of course)and a great day for everyone else!

So, today I finally got my first box of Nickels and was very excited to open them up.

Well, my excitement quickly turned to heartbreak when I opened the box and noticed that it was full of 2014's.

It happens. Try working with the teller to fetch the 'old' looking coins from the vault. As heavy as they are, making it a worthwhile trip for you and the teller both makes sense. Better luck on the next box but you could open a few rolls to find a few high grade specimens to hold onto.

finished one bag and most of another. only a single War Nickel so far. have gotten 4 S mint semi-keys (less than 20 million minted). normal amount of pre-60. pretty uninteresting except for the semi keys.

Well, the nickels started off slow tonight. First box only produced a 55d, with most coins being 2014. Second box had lots of new coins, but not as drastic.

And then, this popped out!

my first, and in incredible shape! This one was withheld from circulation, and some how made its way to me :-) Sure, I jumped and screamed a bit, but isn't that appropriate in this case?

The 1982 is a bit MAD and has a fancy rim edge. 2 War Nickels one of which fills a hole (45D), so down to 5 holes to fill (I'm with you Skibs - the end seems achievable). Happy hunting folks!

Personally I think that keeping the pre '59 nickels is a waste. I'm sure many of you will be happy to know that when I get them from change I just spend them at face.

Well - still waiting to find my 42D. Proving to be a tough bugger!!

Franklin - yes, what to do with all the pre-1960 nickels...for now, they pile up waiting for variety searching. I collected thousands of Lincolns years ago, but only recently did I learn about variety hunting (took 3 decades off from collecting). I'm glad I did because I have a pool for variety hunting. Certainly wasn't my plan, but it worked out well, so lightning might strike twice I suppose. Happy hunting!

Found me these two over the weekend. None appear to have any grinding. Any thoughts?
