I only have about 15 more holes to fill in my Jefferson folders but cant get back into searching Nickles. Right now I'm really into pennies but am thinking about trying my luck some more so I can try to finish up the folder so I can store it away in a safe spot

45d is awesome, I'm still missing that one. picked a 43p out of a box today, and kept a few other older ones.

The ability to find good nickels seems to be declining. We are getting more and more boxes where we find zero or only one keeper. Last night's box yielded only a 1958p upgrade. And I don't count upgrades as keepers, since they are replacements, not additions. When we started box searching several years ago, it was not uncommon to find 4-6 keepers per box.

Cbass - 39D...I'm still waiting on that one to find me. Nice find!!
Jon - I'd love to see the data on what you and your son have amassed. I could probably put some accumulative data together from the updates I post and from the nickels I've hoarded to this point, but a great number of them come from undocumented searches 30+ years ago as a kid with my brother. I really need to organize and partially why I haven't been CRHing for the past few weeks. Just cleaning up the desk and working on the kitchen. Busy times!!
Dan - another 45D; maybe an upgrade? Nice find! Skibs is jealous perhaps?
Carlos - Nice finds! You're on a roll especially with those error coins.
Soccer - pennies get my first attention too but being so close on the nickels, I'm charged a bit on getting nickels to search. Good luck!

Rackster,
I hope this comes out looking nice. My son has it on an Excel spreadsheet. This is for the non Silver nickels.
Group 1 Mintage # Found Find Ratio
1950d 2.6m 1 0.38 1939d 3.5m 5 1.43 1938s 4.1m 2 0.49 1938d 5.4m 5 0.93 1939s 6.6m 6 0.91 Totals 22.2m 19 0.86
Group 2
1951s 7.8m 30 3.85 1955p 8.3m 42 5.06 1949s 9.7m 23 2.37 1950p 9.8m 26 2.65 Totals 35.6m 121 3.40
Group 3
1948s 11.3 30 2.65 1946s 13.6 31 2.28 1942d 13.9 19 1.37 Totals 38.8 80 2.06
As you can see, the find ratio specifies how hard it is to find the coin per millions minted. Group 1 coins are hardest to find, indicating they have been selectively removed from circulation. Group 3 coins are next hardest to find. Group 2 coins are the easiest of the three groups to find. It is especially interesting that Group 1 are so much harder to find that Group 2 as you can see from the find ratio, even tough the mintage differences are not that great.

Unfortunately, when I posted, the space between columns was not maintained.

I forgot to add the totals for all three 116.1 groups:

We just got the 1950d within the last year. It took us quite a few years and hundreds of boxes to get it, our hardest to find of all Jefferson nickels.

Last 4 boxes produced 8 War Nickels and a 1950D which was tossed back by accident. O well.

I completed the folder in 30 days and with 50 boxes of Nickels back in 2009.
