id love a 39s!

had a decent box today with some older nickels, and a 43p too.

But this one was interesting, I think it was struck through cloth or something. The patterm is steady across the obverse, and the rim seems to show dings according to the pattern. The dings are tighter at equator, and wider at the poles.

Reverse is normal. Also, it is 2014, so it has not been in circulation too long.

I put it in a 2x2. Took these pics with my loupe and a zoomed in smartphone.

I learned about this 'struck through' concept here, if this is in fact what I have

@Skibdib - I'e found 4 39S's so far. All I'm missing is the 39D and 50D. It's frustrating to flip a 39 over, see the mint mark, and then realize it is an "S".

Also, I don't believe your nickel is struck through cloth. If it were struck through something you would have lost design elements. You would have the cloth design instead of the coin design. Yours I think, perhaps sat on something cloth that was dirty and transferred over to your coin. My Two Cents :)

Skibs - pretty interesting looking; reminds me of grilling!!

furry - I know what you mean to the extent that when I see an older reverse with a D, I'm hoping to see 1939 on the flip. On the previous box, I found 2 40Ds and a 41D. All came up reverse first and given the close proximity in age, the wear and patina had me drooling just a bit. Still nice to find Ds and Ss on the east coast.

...and if the 1939Ss are causing you suffering, you can send them my way!

My son and I have been somewhat fortunate on some of the hard to find Jefferson nickels. I previously stated the ones we have few of. The ones we've found more of are:

1938d (5)
1939d (5)
1939s (6)

Indeed. Nice numbers on those low mintage items. I did a bit of an inventory last weekend. I rescanned all the years for missorted mint marks and while I found a few, I did not find any Ds or Ss amongst the 1938 and 1939 specimens. I've accumulated about a roll for these dates aside from the 1938D, 1938S and 1939s I have in my first album. One of each and that's it. Granted I only do a box every 2-3 weeks so my odds are lower than many here but I'm hopeful. Looking back, the vast majority of key and semi key nickels I have were found decades ago. But the past year has been productive in filing a few open spots. It is easily worth the effort.

Nice one carloscoria! I only managed 36 Wars this year. It was a rough year for nickels for me.
