CLS12 Pillar of the Community United States 509 Posts	Posted 02/25/2015 9:48 pm Tried the vinegar mix on dateless buffs. 2 x 1916, 1 x 1929 and 2 remained dateless- one might have been another 1929 depending how hard I squint. Rackster Pillar of the Community United States 4809 Posts	Posted 02/25/2015 10:28 pm Nice finds sloan! That '38 looks like a very nice representing coin! CLS - I think you nailed them. In my experience, if you don't see a date readily it may be that the coin is too far gone or the 50/50 mix. I've experimented a bit but only ended up passing by the squint test to etch too harshly and lose all chance of seeing something. Fun to learn what could have been and I've actually put them into a separate nickel album specifically for my pickled nickels. Report this Post to the Staff

Proofs were minted in Philadelphia until 1964. They were minted in San Francisco starting in 1968.
