269 boxes, 3.5 years, over half a million nickels, I finally completed my set with all finds from the wild.

skibdib - many congratulations! That's amazing! Not too many people can say these days that they have completed the set. Most impressive!

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind:

Of the 269 boxes, how many did you have to search just for the 38-S? That is, at what point during the 269 were you just looking for one last coin? (I'm about 120 boxes in, and still looking for the 38-S.)

I wonder how far you have gone on a "proof" set of Jeffersons. Any early proofs show up?

Again, very impressive!

thanks everyone, it sure was a heck of a project. At times I wondered if it would ever finish. After all, a bit of luck is involved.

The last hole filler before this one was 3/1/2015, a 45D war nick. Before that was 2/22/2015 for the 38d, and 1/3/2015 for the 39s

So, its been about 185 boxes since the last hole filler. Wow, how time flies.

As for proofs, Ive probably gotten about a dozen in that time, though I have not tracked it too well. If I get a closer look at the dates, I will post them.

Good luck with those seeking 1 more coin for their collection. It can be done!

I broke one of my own cardinal rules today. I was depositing $100 in nickels at my dump bank, and asked if I could swap for $100 in nickels. On the bright side, I'm certain I didn't get my searched rolls back, but I feel bad for breaking the rule of don't dump where I eat! It was snowing like crazy and rush hour was starting so I didn't want to make a separate stop at one of my pickup banks...excuses, excuses!

Oh well, I'm over it now :)

I went through 114 rolls of nickels yesterday... Found 40 pre-60s including 1920 and 1935-D Buffalos, an AU 1945-S, and a nice 2009-P to go along with 7 2009 Ds... With that 35-D Buffalo, I have found all 11 coins from 1934-1937.

Due to business trips, my father was able to get 10 rolls of nickels in Wisconsin one week, and another 10 the next week from Alaska. As an aside, he said the bank at Alaska was very friendly especially with our request.
He got the rolls back in November. He won't be going back until later in February, so searching the 20 rolls has been a low priority for me. I had other things that needed to be done so waiting to search was difficult!

Alaska (6 MWR and 4 CWR):
3 pre-60 (.75%): 2-52S (hole filler); 59D
27 Canadian (6.75%): 22 pure nickel and 5 cupronickel
Other: 2016P hole filler, 10 upgrades

All the Canadians (except one in a machine roll) were in a single CWR. They've been returned back to their proper home.

Wisconsin (10 MWR):
7 pre-60 (1.75%): 40, 46, 2-59D. Hole fillers: 42D, 49S, 54D
Other: 1968D hole filler, 11 upgrades.

Pictured for fun is a 196?, which looks like it was cut by some kind of tool. I'm not keeping it, of course.

aris, great cake!

Shoe, decent finds for a limited search. It's good your dad is willing to fly the coins home for you. Best of luck on your next US nickel search!
