What part of the country are you in? We are in Ohio and have no problems finding the 1955p, but the others you list are all hard to find.

It is a funny thing John - I'm in CT and I have a complete roll of 1949S Jefferson nickels from CRH. S mint cents are harder to find here, but nickels are much, much better. As for the 1955P, I guess I have around 30; one of the few date/mm combinations that I haven't completed a roll for.

It is an interesting phenomenon that we each struggle with a date/mm combo folks readily find. For pre-1960 nickels (excluding War Nickels):

Philly Mint
- Complete rolls for every date except 1950 and 1955.

Denver Mint
- Complete rolls for every date except 1938, 1939, 1942, 1950

San Francisco Mint
- Complete rolls for every date except 1938, 1939, 1946, 1948, 1951, 1952

For the under 15M production dates, I keep the extras (usually lower grade specimens) in a separate container. All the other extras go into a separate plastic tub. For a long time, I released the extras back into the wild but I've been holding onto them for the past couple of years so youngsters can pour through them to complete a folder or two. Mainly Philly and Denver specimens, but a couple/few hundred extra San Fran specimens in the mix.

That's some good data, Rackster! I'm kind of surprised you have a full roll of 1949-S nickels, but not the 1946-S nor 1952-S from CRH as those are a lot easier pulls (at least based on my findings and the actual mintages). For a long time I was having trouble finding 1951 Philly coins (both nickels and cents) CRH, but that seemed to be an early statistical anomaly, and I'm finding them more frequently now. Same for the 1945-P nickel, and the 1939 Lincoln Cent.

As for me (not including War Nickels), here are mine that I have yet to get a roll of via circ finds and CRH:

P: 1938, 1950, 1955 (I also have found more than a roll of 1943-Ps)
D: 1938, 1939, 1950 (I do have a full roll of 1942-Ds believe it or not!)
S: 1938, 1939, 1951 (I also have found more than a roll of 1943-Ss)

2009-P nickels remain difficult out here. I have yet to find one this month, and am at around 30 total via circ finds and CRH.




I keep telling myself that, Silver Eagle... I just keep persevering! My 1939-D found via CRH is a high end AU coin... given what I had found in the previous almost full LOOMIS box (170 pre-60s including a 1938-D in 44 rolls), I wasn't too surprised to find it in the next LOOMIS box (along with a 1938-S), but the condition of it shocked me. I just wish my bank had gotten more than just two boxes that shipment.

That's great, jbuck! Does it inspire you to get a few rolls and back to CRHing?

Hi John - only 5-10 nickels away from completing most of those rolls, excluding the 38D, 38S, 39D, 39S, and 50D. Those tubes are rather light as you might suspect. Oddly, the 51S is furthest away from completion. I need another 30 their to fill out the roll. As for the 1949S, I have around 60. How to explain that?

2009D is coming along, at 25 now. As for the 2009Ps, I toss them back unless it presents an upgrade to the ones I've kept. It's difficult to find high/higher grade 2009 specimens in circulation. But not impossible.

John77 - congratulations! A great year for V-Nickel!

Bought some customer rolls of nickels and cents Friday. One roll of nickels had OLD written on it. I wasn't disapointed. It contained 21 Buffalo nickels. Some were dateless, a few were damaged but one was a 1926-D. Planning on heading back Monday to see if there are any more.
