So I bought almost 4 boxes worth of nickels (7,520 coins) from 13 different banks on Saturday. As usual, I went through the CWRs first... 2,880 of the coins I bought were this type. A batch of 5 rolls from the bank where this all got started 14 months ago produced this little gem... Showed up obverse first, and of course did not expect to find what I did on the reverse... Yes, a 1939-D! And yes, it does have a slightly rotated reverse to boot. This would be the third one I've ever found, and second during this 14 month CRH run... I'll post the rest of my finds in a bit...

Nice finds, John 77! We did $60 worth over the weekend, and found 20 pre-60's nickels. We did find a 1949-S which filled a hole in our folder, but no buffalos or silver. We did find 2 1939's, but both Philadelphia coins. We were hoping for a mint mark, like yours :)

Thanks, jbuck and dadsoncoinhobby! And nice on the 1949-S... I actually found one of those yesterday as well... Keep plugging away, those mintmarked 1939 nickels are out there... the 1950 nickels, not so much (at least for me). It turned out that the 1939-D was just the beginning of my good fortune... Of the 13 banks I hit, 7 of them had rolls which produced War Nickels! I ended up with NINE War Nickels, along with a 1934 and a Dateless Buffalo (97 pre-60s total) on the day! Lost in the shuffle was a CWR of nickels which had 18 pre-60s including a 1942-D. Other than that roll of War Nickels I found in February (and the "Super Roll" of 30 years ago which had 15 of them and nothing later than 1954), this is the most War Nickels I've ever found in a day...

Quote: I ended up with NINE War Nickels, along with a 1934 and a Dateless Buffalo Great finds, John77! Congratulations in the 1939-D. Is there a lamination error on one of the 45 P coins? I did one box of MWRs this weekend, and it was much, much better than average: 1930-P, 1920-S, 1976-P with a Cud, a 2005-S impaired proof, a 1945-D (haven't found too many of these), some more silvers, a Bermuda nickel, and a 2009-D. Not John77 good, but good for me!

Thanks, aristarchus123! And congrats on your nice finds! 5 silvers in a box is very good! I now have two full books of Jeffersons save the one pesky coin. You know the one. And indeed that is a lamination you see on the reverse of one of the 45-Ps... Also, as you may recall, I found that very same 1976 Cud you did about nine months ago. http://goccf.com/t/264870Thanks again, jbuck and Illegaltender... And Rackster, glad you're inspired... I see stuff all of the time on this forum which helps to keep me going when the doldrums hit.

A quick $20 of nickels produced no hole fillers or silver, but we got 5 pre-1960:
39 40 x 2 41 52

Got a box of nickels early in the week and was pleasantly surprised to find three silvers... three others found this week so far... hopefully, I will find more in this afternoon's stuff.

Went through $50 of nickels over the weekend and found a 1946S needed for the album. 12 nickels to go! Found 6 other pre-60 Jeffersons as well. No buffalo or silver nickels this time.
