The Goal: 25,000 Rolls Of Nickels (All Searchers Welcome!)

I went back to the two BofAs where I had the good finds the past couple of days, and was not disappointed... picked up $50 more in S&S MWR from the same teller who I got the BU 1938-D Jefferson from last weekend. There were 14 pre-60s in the batch including this really nice 1930-S Buffalo with a full horn. In Extra Fine it's a $16 coin! Also found a 1945-S, and 2 2009-Ds. I got $56 of S&S rolls from the other branch (where I found a 49-S, 50, and 35 Buffalo last weekend) and they produced 13 pre-60s including a 1942-S and 3 2009-Ds...

On the day, I searched 94 rolls, finding 39 pre-60s, and a total of 9 2009-Ds, along with the aforementioned finds. Strange anomaly of the day: NO Canadian coins showed up.

Went back to the same BofA yesterday, but the teller with the better S&S rolls wasn't there... the teller who I had avoided the day before was there, but all she had were fresh 2017-D coins. Went across the street to one of my Wells branches and picked up a box, which was unexpectedly a S&S box. Earlier in the day, I had gone to another Wells branch, and Brinks also had delivered them S&S boxes... So I ended up with two S&S boxes yesterday... fourth roll in found a 1938-D Buffalo - my 2nd ever! And it's a nice one! Later, found a 1941-S Large S from that first box... Second box was very uneventful until the next to last roll which produced a 1945-D. 15 pre-60s from the first box, 17 from the second, along with a combined 5 2009-Ds.

So I start reading this forum and it sounds like a cool thing to get my 7 and 6 year old granddaughters doing. They help me with the halves from time to time but get board quickly because the "keepers" dont come to often. So we all jump into the car to get our first box from the bank. I tell them what to look for and off they go. They stay at it until both of them fall asleep. We finished the box off the next eve and they couldnt wait to get another. Just got home with it and we will hit it tomorrow after school. First box results were

69 assorted 50s
Ordered 2 books to get them started filling them in Hope to have a little time this weekend to see just exactly what we have found. Are there any really key dates to be looking for besides the heads and silvers? Thanks for the help in advance and thanks for the idea to do this. Great quality time spent with them. Hope the hunt goes well with everyone!

Thanks John77 I thought that we did really well on the numbers we found. Now we will see on those key dates. Didnt keep any from the 60s but got a ton of them also. Very few newer coins in that box. Hope they all come like that first one and not just "beginners luck"! Happy hunting!

I got a box tonight. 2 War Nickels 42P & 43P a dateless buffalo that looks like someone already tried using nic-a-date on it. Also found what I think may be a 1965 proof. Can anyone tell me what they think?

As said above, no proofs in 1965. I agree that it could be from the Special Mint Set (SMS).
