I don't advise the use of nic-a-date. I have used it before. It leaves a bad stain on the nickel. We use white vinegar.

Totally agree... speaking of white vinegar, here's my latest formerly dateless find that got restored with a few days in vinegar, and a little acetone (there was some black caked on the lower obverse). Nice 1917-D hole filler!  CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

I've used it quite a bit to clean dirt and other foreign substances off of them without an issue. CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Acetone only affects organic material. It does not affect metal.

Went and picked up a box of nickels today again and guess what? They were all 2016-P!, sheesh. Last week I got a box of 2017-P's. Maybe next week I'll get a box of 2018's! (I can only hope)

Went to the bank last week, looking for a box. They didn't have any, but had a recently filled bag off the coin counter. Decided to try my luck and see what was in there. No silver or buffalos, but did find 112 pre-60 nickels. Also, found 2 dimes, a penny, 6 Canadian nickels and a 2015 Bahamas Pineapple 5 cent piece.
There were an abnormal amount of S mint nickels in the bunch (10), 4- 1940s, 1-1941s, 1-1949s, 2-1953s and 2-1954s.
Puts us on a 6 box silver-less streak and an 8 box buffalo-less streak.

Always nice to snag a 1949S during a CRH event! Double check your 1941S to see if it's a Large or Small S. Large S about 10X more valuable. Good luck!!

Totally agree, Rackster! I did check the 41 and it was a small S. I've found 11 1941S nickels in my CRH, and only 1 has been a large S.

I searched for $100 Nickels Box but I founds 28 Pre-60s, 1920 Buffaloes, 2 Silver War Nickels, and 2 Foreign Coins.
