Last night's box was a buffalo dump box!:
1917p 1
1923p 3
1928p 2
1934p 1 (only our third ever)
1935p 1
1937p 3
undated 1
plus a 1943P silver

I forgot to ad that with that haul of 12 buffalos from last night's box, we went over 250 Buffalo nickels found from CRH! |

I did a box last night. 1 1945-S. A hit on the reverse has caused the obverse to bulge out a bit. 23 other pre-60: 40, 40-S, 41-S x2, 46, 47, 48-S x3, 49 x2, 49-D, 52-D, 53-S, 54-D x2, 55-D, 57-D x3, 58-D x3. 1 1985 Canadian. Over half of the 13 forties coins are S mints, and the lowest mintage in the lot, 48-S, produced three examples.  Two still have a bit of luster, though it's a shame about the terrible strike on the 53-S.  |

i picked up 4 boxes this week.
went through 2 and it wasnt very fruitful:
2x 1942P
a few 40's, 2x 2009
2 more boxes to go..
i wonder, how does a box end up with a lot of buffalos or a lot of war niks
is it how the bank bags go to where ever they box them? for example:
lady dumps husbands collection of buffs, teller doesn't care, bags them, sends them to armored truck company, then they get sorted or rolled collectively and BANG.. you get a box of buffs>?

SDcoinguy, still nice finds! And yes, all of your examples on how Buffalo nickels and War Nickels get in boxes is true and makes perfect sense. Most likely a collection dump, if you're finding tons of them. Errers and Varietys.

also, let me update:
box 1 - no silver, bunch of 1940-41's
box 2 - 1x 1945-P, NOT 2x 42-p
box 3 - no silver, some BU modern hole fillers
discouraged that I'm not finding much of anything

I searched 10 rolls, maybe I'll work up to a box. No buffs but I did find: 41S 47D 53D 55D 58Dx2 59 And a 79D where you can see the outline of Monticello on the front to each side of Jefferson's head and the outline of Jefferson's head on the back, above and below Monticello. What do you call this or is it not really anything?     |

Hi everyone, Highlights of the box this past weekend were a 42P silver (still hoping for our final missing coin, the 42S silver)... every 42 silver that we see gets us hoping, but still waiting. Did also find a key date coin (1939S) - below  |

To CCF stevecpa66! That's a very nice find! That's called a Die Clash. It happens when there's not a planchet in between the die, and instead of striking the planchets, the dies strike each other, causing these marks you're seeing on your coin. The details gets transferred on the dies. You can also see that they tried to get rid of the Die Clashes on both sides (die polishing marks), but didn't quite removed all of it. Definitely a keeper.
